STEEL - FLAT ROLLED PRODUCTS

Flat steel constitutes over 50% of the total steel produced worldwide. They are used in several applications including automobile body, roofing, fabrication etc. Flat steels are processed from slabs & include Hot Rolled coils (HR), Hot rolled pickled & oiled coils (HRPO) and Cold Rolled coils (CR).

Our Building Materials Division deals in the following Flat rolled steel products which are supplied to end user factories.

Cold Rolled Coils (CR)

HRPO (Hot rolled pickled & oiled) coils are rolled at room temperature in a Tandem or Reversing mill to produce Cold Rolled Full Hard coils which can be directly used for Galvanizing applications. CR full hard coils can further be annealed in a controlled atmosphere to produce Cold Rolled Close Annealed (CRCA) coils which have excellent properties suitable for forming, drawing & painting. CRCA is used for applications including automobile panels, white goods, formed parts, fabrication, tubes etc.

Cold rolled coils supplied by us are processed on high speed mills and start upwards from thickness of 0.12 mm & widths of 762 mm . These mills are equipped with high technology features like automatic gauge control, shape control, crown control etc.

Hot Dip Galvanized Steel

Cold Rolled steel is coated with Zinc by passing through a molten bath to form an adherent inter metallic bond - the zinc coating and the steel behave as one during fabrication & service. The composition and temperature of the molten zinc is rigorously controlled to achieve the optimum bond between coating and steel. The resultant Galvanized steel with its superior corrosion resistance finds wide application in Roofing, fabrication etc.

Typically, Galvanized steel is supplied with Zinc coatings of Z-120, Z-180 & Z-270 depending on customer requirements.

Aluzinc Coated Steel

Aluzinc consists of a coating of Aluminum-Zinc alloy (55% Al - 45% Zn) on the substrate of Cold rolled steel. The process is identical to the process of galvanizing. The surface of Aluzinc is protected further through a process of resin coating or passivation. Aluzinc is ideally suitable for Roofing because of its strength, extraordinary outdoor corrosion resistance and reflectivity.

Available in thickness of 0.18 mm upwards, Aluzinc normally is supplied with coatings of AZ60, AZ70, AZ100 & AZ150.

Pre-painted Steel

Pre-painted Steels are produced by coating paint on a surface that has already been galvanized either with Zinc or a Zinc-Aluminum alloy. Galvanized steel used for pre-painted is usually zero or minimized spangle to ensure a smooth surface appearance. These sheets are used in applications such as Construction, household and outdoor furniture, toys and sporting goods, signs, displays & lighting etc.

A wide range of colours are available based on RAL numbers.

STEEL - PIPES & SECTIONS

ERW Sections

Electric Resistance Welded sections (ERW) refers to cold-formed welded steel tubes used in construction of buildings, bridges, furniture, shelf, machinery & automotive applications. These sections are available in square, rectangular and round shapes depending on requirement. ERW sections are produced either from HR or CR coils depending on the thickness & surface finish requirements. These sections have excellent strength to weight ratios.

Galvanized Pipes

Pipes manufactured by Electric resistance welding are coated with zinc in a molten bath to provide corrosion resistance. These pipes are available in plain ends or as screwed & socketed. Fittings for this type of pipe are of galvanized malleable (soft) cast iron.

Galvanized pipes are available in diameters from 1/2" with wall thickness as per BS 1367.

STEEL - WIRE PRODUCTS

Black Annealed Wires

Black Annealed wires are fully soft steel wires produced from high-quality low carbon raw materials through wire drawing and annealing process. The finished products are lightly coated with oil to prevent rusting.Main applications of these wires include binding reinforcing steel, baling & in general tying applications.

Black annealed wires are available in diameters of 1.1 mm upwards.

Galvanized Wires

Galvanized wires are produced by drawing high quality wire rods to required diameter & coating with Zinc through a process of hot dipped galvanizing or electro-galvanizing.

Galvanized wires are available in diameters from 0.70 mm upwards & are used for fencing, wire mesh, packaging etc.

Wire Nails

Wire nails are supplied in flat head, counter sunk with smooth shanks. These nails are used for mainly carpentry applications.

Roofing Nails

Galvanized Roofing nails are used to fix roofing sheets & are available in plain shank or twisted shank varieties. Major sizes include BWG 9 to BWG 13.

PLYWOOD

Plywood is produced from sawn logs which are sorted and stored according to species, diameter, length and end-use. The sawn logs are then air dried or kiln dried before peeling to produce thin sheets called veneer. Veneer is cut to required lengths and the sheets are joined together using WBP (weather and boil-proof), BR (boil-resistant) or MR (moisture-resistant and moderately weather-resistant) glues. Once the veneers are laid-up as assembly plywood sheets, they are fed into hydraulic presses so as to bring the veneer into direct contact with the adhesive, where the application of heat cures the glue.

Plywood is available in various grades with Okume, birch, oak, meranti faces; thickness starts from 2.5 mm upwards with normal sizes of 4' x 8'
